SMB owns a set of units, made up of an atmospheric distillation and a vacuum distillation with a crude oil processing capacity of 520,000 tons yearly and it is able to produce about 300,000 yearly on heavy crude oil.

SMB’s units in the refinery had been developed to be independently operating with their own production use. However, since SIR’s refinery extension in 1981, SMB’s units saw their circuits joined to those of the refinery to swap products and utilities. In this case, the distillates from crude oil processing are directly sent into SIR’s installations – units and tanks for storage- for conformity.

Atmosphere distillation generates three products:

• Petrol (gazoline)
  
• Kerosene
  
• Atmosphere oil

Vacuum distillation generates two products:

• Light vacuum oil
  
• Heavy vacuum oil

All our products are made according to the standards of international specification (ASTM / AFNOR). Then they are tested in dully authorized ISO 9000 laboratories and are recertified by a world- famous freelance inspector. Our pure bitumen: 40/50 (ELEPHANT), 60/70 (BELIER) and 80/ 100 (GAZELLE) are produced through the direct distillation of heavy crude oil. Indeed the direct distillation process by differing from Air blowing process, leads to the production of bitumen without modifying their basic chemical structures.
