To supply SMB plant with crude oil and dispatch its finished products, there was a need to build up a landing stage and specialized pipelines, one of which was designed for crude oil and the other for bitumen.

It was thought fit to connect many pipes to make factory traffic possible enabling it to improve its current dispatching and acceptance conditions.

This industrial set is made up of five pipes located between SIR’s refinery and the landing stage as well as linkings with existing stores.

The major pipelines are 3500m long and have the following main features:

  • An insulated crude oil pipeline number 18”
  • A bitumen 8” electrically heated and insulated pipeline
  • A petrol 14” pipeline
  • A butane 6” pipeline

Equipped with automated charging hands, the landing stage permits:
  • To handle tankers of 30 000T
  • To supply SMB with crude bitumen
  • To supply Sir’s refinery units with crude oil
  • To dispatch finished products
  • To handle imported finished products.

Today SMB can receive LR2 and Suez Max crude oil tankers through SIR’ 42” sealine linked to an SBM (Single Buoy Moorig) terminal.

At the logistical level, SMB’s big investments have won her partnership a major influence in the sub-region.

Then an upper modern store with a capacity of 15,000MT enlarged its dispatching capacities for tankers and enable it to meet the demands of both containers and tank trucks serving landlocked countries.

These investments permit to:

  • Increase the bitumen dispatching capacity by installing a broad band pump
  • Increase the storage capacity of bitumen by 15,000MT by means of converting storage from SODESUCRE into bitumen storage
To improve the customer service, investments in bitucontainers are being made.
